New Leadership for Economic Development Partnership of Alabama in Birmingham

Birmingham is set to welcome a new leader for the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA) as Miller Girvin officially steps into her role as president on January 1. Girvin, who has been serving as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), was unanimously elected to take over the position from Greg Barker, who will conclude his four-year tenure on December 31.

Girvin joined the EDPA in 2021, bringing with her a wealth of experience in promoting innovation and entrepreneurial growth across the state. In her previous position as CEO of the Alabama Capital Network, she focused on enhancing investment opportunities for Alabama startups. Additionally, she has been actively involved with Governor Kay Ivey’s Innovate Alabama Commission, which emphasizes the importance of innovation in driving economic progress.

A Commitment to Growth

Reflecting on her upcoming role, Girvin expressed her gratitude, noting that it is an honor to step into the position. “It has been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated partners—investors, economic developers, state leaders, and the vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem here in Alabama — all in an effort to grow our state,” she stated. Girvin emphasized that she looks forward to building on the current momentum and collaborating with Alabama’s business leaders to foster growth in the community.

As Girvin takes the helm, her commitment to strengthening Alabama businesses and attracting new industries is evident. Jeff Peoples, CEO of Alabama Power, voiced his support, saying, “Miller is committed to growing Alabama businesses and communities, and attracting new industry to the state. Her expertise will be valuable as we work to continue to elevate our state.”

Farewell to Greg Barker

Stepping down from his leadership role, Barker, who joined EDPA in 2020, has seen Girvin’s capabilities up close. He remarked on her “exceptional leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to pursuing positive growth throughout Alabama.” Barker noted her success in initiatives like Alabama Launchpad, which has played a crucial role in fostering innovation and retaining talent in the state.

“I have no doubt that under her leadership, EDPA will continue to thrive,” Barker added. His comments reflect a strong belief in Girvin’s potential to guide the organization into a new era of growth and development.

Looking Ahead

As the new president takes the reins, many are looking forward to what the future holds for the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, Girvin is expected to implement strategies that benefit local businesses and encourage investment in the region.

The surrounding community, investors, and business leaders will undoubtedly keep a close eye on the developments in the coming months, hoping for significant advancements in Alabama’s economic landscape.

In summary, as Birmingham prepares for this leadership transition, the community is eager to see how Miller Girvin will shape the future of economic development in Alabama. With the solid foundation laid by Barker, there is optimism surrounding Girvin’s vision and her commitment to enhancing both the business sector and community prosperity across the state.
