The business landscape of Birmingham continues to evolve with summer bringing an array of openings and closings. From a highly-anticipated new antique mall to a secret speakeasy, Birmingham is buzzing with entrepreneurial energy.

New Openings

1. Santos Coffee | Montclair Road

For the caffeine enthusiasts of Irondale, Santos Coffee drive-thru opened its seventh Birmingham location last week on Montclair Road, right next to Milo’s.

2. Hillside Music & Que | Vestavia Hills

The former Palm & Pig has rebranded to Hillside Music & Que after a change in ownership. The eatery now serves up food, drinks, and live tunes from local musicians.

3. Crestwood Pickers | Crestwood

Crestwood Pickers, an antique mall and indoor market, had its grand opening on July 27. The venue hosts over 300 local vendors selling an array of products ranging from furniture to handmade goods.

4. Clemontin Antique Shoppe | Pepper Place

Birmingham will soon welcome Clemontin Antique Shoppe to the map. Founded by Stephanie Lynton, Clemontín will showcase a wide range of wall art, furniture, and other unique home goods.

Brother Paul’s BBQ, a project by Golden Rule BBQ veteran Paul Curcio, is set to serve up delicious barbecue dishes. However, Paul aims to do more than just satisfy your taste buds—he aspires to promote well-rounded health and wellness too.

6. Speakeasy @ Umami | Trussville

A distinctive addition to Umami Trussville, an upcoming speakeasy will soon be serving up an elegant atmosphere along with its drinks. Plans to enclose the patio area are already underway.

7. Ghost Train | Avondale

Ghost Train, a beloved local brewery, has temporarily closed its doors. A sign posted on the door hints at “exciting changes” in the future.

8. Rickshaw Food Truck

Rickshaw food truck made a mark on Birmingham with East Asian-inspired cuisine in its two years of operation. Although the unique culinary gem is closing, we look forward to seeing its next evolution.
