Scary Parenting Moment Inspires Birth of Revolutionary Startup

Paolo Alejandro Catilo, a father of three, unexpectedly found a turning point in his life after an incident with his child led to a new, innovative venture. His oldest son bumped his head while playing at school, which was a minor accident that appeared harmless initially. Nonetheless, it spiraled into a moment of panic when the child fell off a stool later in the day, leading to considerable concern and a string of questions from his frantic parents.

Thankfully, the child was alright, but the incident sparked an idea in Paolo’s mind – one that would assist parents, coaches, and medical professionals in determining the next steps when facing similar situations. With an established career in deep tech and healthcare, the thought resonated deeper with Paolo, having previously encountered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a motorcycle accident.

The Dawn of Cerebro NeuroTech

Motivated to make the diagnosis process for concussion and TBI more efficient and lifesaving, Paolo embarked on launching Cerebro NeuroTech, a confluence of spatial-computing and extended reality (XR), with the primary purpose of unraveling the complexities of Sport-Related Concussions (SRC) and brain trauma detection, evaluation, and care. Incorporated in July 2022, the company now partners with the Lakeshore Foundation, collectively working towards enhancing Cerebro NeuroTech’s product in association with people with disabilities.

Expanding Cerebro NeuroTech in the Heart of Innovation

Jumping forward to April 2024, Paolo was welcomed by Prosper Health Tech Accelerator (PHTA), powered by gener8tor, to be a part of their upcoming cohort here in Birmingham. The mission of the PHTA is to empower the ambitious and disciplined healthcare founders by providing them with resources and a network to reimagine the healthcare industry. Paolo accepted the invite and thus began his journey with PHTA.

Soon after joining PHTA, Paolo connected with Maria Underwood of Birmingham Bound, who introduced him to the Lakeshore Foundation. Paolo’s journey soon took another exciting turn when he had the opportunity to tour the Innovation Depot. Aware of the crucial role Innovation Depot plays within Birmingham’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, Paolo secured a 12-month lease for continued growth and expansion.

The Significant Impact of Cerebro NeuroTech on the Medical Field

Cerebro NeuroTech uses a virtual reality (VR) headset programmed with artificial intelligence (AI) models that help detect concussion and traumatic brain injury (TBI). The system boasts an impressive accuracy rate of up to 95% and a detection time within 60 seconds. In partnership with the Sports Science and Performance Center (SSPC) at Lakeshore, Cerebro aims to provide a tool that offers immediate and accurate detection of sports-related injuries for all types of athletes.

Notably, the company is expanding its reach beyond concussions and TBIs. They are actively working on developing models for the early detection of neurocognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The innovative startup has made waves in the medical field and has set promising standards for the future of healthcare diagnostics.

Growth, evolution, and progressive technology define the bright path ahead for Cerebro NeuroTech. Already dubbed as a game-changer, this startup is playing an invaluable part in transforming healthcare diagnosis using cutting-edge technology.
