The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham Relocates to Birmingham’s Switch District

In a significant shift aimed at increasing the organisation’s visibility and accessibility, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham (CFGB) is moving its headquarters from the Landmark Center in downtown Birmingham to the Nextec building in the vibrant Switch District.

Fulfilling a Core Mission

Established in 1959, the CFGB has committed more than a half-billion dollars to the local community by way of philanthropic and progressive initiatives. Christopher Nanni, CEO and President at CFGB, expressed his enthusiasm for the relocation. He emphasized this move aligns with CFGB’s evolved identity as a catalytic funder and change agent in the community.

Nanni stated that the CFGB seeks to be a foundation with a tangible footprint. With the new location affording direct visibility and access to the various constituents of the city, the move to the Nextec building is anticipated to be a transformative chapter in the foundation’s history.

The Historic and Strategic Nextec Building

The CFGB is set to move into the recently refurbished Nextec building in early March. The 65,000-square-foot space was originally the home of the Edwards Motor Company back in 1928. Located at 1531 Third Avenue North Birmingham, the office building has been revitalized by Michael Mouron, chairman emeritus of Capstone Development Partners.

Michael Mouron expressed his excitement at having the CFGB as a tenant in the building. Mouron highlighted that Nextec’s primary aim is to serve as a catalyst attracting and retaining companies in the city’s northwest quadrant, which encompasses the Switch and Civil Rights Districts.

Believing in the CFGB’s longstanding history of positive contributions to the Greater Birmingham community, Mouron feels there couldn’t be a more fitting tenant than the CFGB for Nextec’s most prominent location.

New Opportunities in the Switch District

The CFGB will make use of a variety of spaces in the Nextec building, including 19 offices, three meeting rooms, two collaborative workstations, and a central break room. It will also enjoy significant exterior visibility, with Foundation branding on the windows facing both Third Ave. N. and 16th St. N. and an illuminated sign on the corner of the building.

This move presents a new chapter for CFGB. With an increased presence in Birmingham’s dynamic Switch District, the foundation stands to extend its philanthropic reach and deepen its active engagement in community development. Going forward, the relocated headquarters will provide an exciting platform for CFGB’s ongoing positive impact in the Greater Birmingham region.
