A shocking incidence has rattled the city of Newport Beach as a group of suspects allegedly ran over a 69-year-old tourist after robbing her outside a local mall. This malicious act ultimately resulted in her death.
The incident reportedly happened outside the renowned Fashion Island Mall, at approximately 3:30 p.m. According to local law enforcements, the suspects appeared and robbed the female victim, who was from New Zealand, and her husband just outside the Barnes and Noble bookstore.
The suspects, after committing the robbery, hastily made their escape in a white car. During their getaway, the suspects brutally ran over the woman, resulting in her unfortunate demise. Even while driving away, the suspects reportedly fired gunshots into the air, instilling fear and shocking the onlookers and bystanders.
Soon after the incident, officials from the Newport Beach Fire Department arrived at the scene. They found the deceased victim in the parking area of the shopping center, just outside Barnes and Noble. Following the incident, the local authorities requested residents to steer clear from the area to facilitate an unhindered investigation.
Describing the suspects as “thugs”, the Mayor voiced his dismay and anger over the incident. He further added, “We have to do better as a society because we cannot tolerate this.”
Suspicion around this group of criminals soon led to a cross-county police chase. After the robbery and murder in Newport, the suspects headed towards Los Angeles County. The authorities followed the speeding car, reaching an alarming speed of 110 mph while on the westbound 105 Freeway.
Exiting the freeway, two suspected individuals leaped from the moving car and plunged into a sheltersrun in a South Gate neighborhood. One individual was found hiding behind trash cans at a nearby residence.
The police were successful in arresting three suspects including the one found in the South Gate neighborhood. The incident marked yet another glaring example of crime and damaged public safety in the city.
The investigations are under process and definite charges will be formulated based on the evidence collected. The names of the arrested individuals are presently kept under wrap until further notice from the police department.
