Birmingham – Off the back of prolific Juneteenth celebrations, The Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) has launched an exciting lineup of performances featuring esteemed Black artists from across the nation. Upcoming events range from soulful concerts to comedy tours and live podcast shows. Among the list of performers are big names such as Nicki Minaj and Katt Williams. Here is the lowdown on what to expect over the next few months.
The Fourth of July weekend kicks off with a thrilling performance by the Kings of Southern Soul. King George, the young and talented singer/songwriter from Alabama, will be delighting the audience with his smooth R’n’B tracks.
Another highlight of the BJCC’s summer lineup is The Queens of R&B tour. This thrilling event showcases two iconic bands of the ’90s: Xscape and SWV (Sisters With Voices).
The State Wide Emergency Tour promises an electrifying experience with the Southeast’s rising rap stars, including Plies, JT, Trina, Rob49, NoCap, and Webbie.
The BJCC will also play host to five-time Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Lalah Hathaway, who will be touring on the back of her seventh solo studio album, VANTABLACK.
New Orleans’ own singer/songwriter and musician, PJ Morton, will be heading to Birmingham on his Cape Town to Cairo tour. Known also for his status as the keyboardist for Maroon 5, Morton has collaborated with industry legends like Stevie Wonder and Lil Wayne.
Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj will be hitting the stage after releasing her fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2. The promotional world tour comprises 80 shows across three continents, with Birmingham marking one of her stops.
