11 Shows Featuring Black Artists Coming to the BJCC Including Nicki Minaj and Katt Williams
Birmingham – Off the back of prolific Juneteenth celebrations, The Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) has launched an exciting lineup of performances featuring esteemed Black artists from across the nation. Upcoming events range from soulful concerts to comedy tours and live podcast shows. Among the list of performers are big names such as Nicki Minaj and Katt Williams. Here is the lowdown on what to expect over the next few months.
1. Kings of Southern Soul Celebration
The Fourth of July weekend kicks off with a thrilling performance by the Kings of Southern Soul. King George, the young and talented singer/songwriter from Alabama, will be delighting the audience with his smooth R’n’B tracks.
2. The Queens of R&B
Another highlight of the BJCC’s summer lineup is The Queens of R&B tour. This thrilling event showcases two iconic bands of the ’90s: Xscape and SWV (Sisters With Voices).
3. State Wide Emergency Tour
The State Wide Emergency Tour promises an electrifying experience with the Southeast’s rising rap stars, including Plies, JT, Trina, Rob49, NoCap, and Webbie.
4. Lalah Hathaway
The BJCC will also play host to five-time Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Lalah Hathaway, who will be touring on the back of her seventh solo studio album, VANTABLACK.
5. PJ Morton
New Orleans’ own singer/songwriter and musician, PJ Morton, will be heading to Birmingham on his Cape Town to Cairo tour. Known also for his status as the keyboardist for Maroon 5, Morton has collaborated with industry legends like Stevie Wonder and Lil Wayne.
6. Nicki Minaj
Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj will be hitting the stage after releasing her fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2. The promotional world tour comprises 80 shows across three continents, with Birmingham marking one of her stops.
7. Maxwell
Three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Maxwell will be kicking off his 2024 Serenade Tour at the Legacy Arena. The soul and R&B singer is known for his influential music that has shaped the industry over decades.
8. The Reunion Tour
Kirk Franklin, dubbed the “Reigning King of Urban Gospel,” will launch The Reunion Tour with co-headliners Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp, The Clark Sisters, Yolanda Adams, and special guest Kierra Sheard-Kelly.
9. 85 South Live
Bringing comedy to the lineup, the 85 South Show features a trio of Atlanta comedians: DC Young Fly, Karlous Miller, and Chico Bean who are taking their popular show on the road.
10. Martin Lawrence
Actor and comedian Martin Lawrence is slated to take his newest material on the road with his Y’all Know What It Is! tour, which includes ever-popular comedians Loni Love, Benji Brown, and Rickey Smiley.
11. Katt Williams
Stand-up comic star Katt Williams will return to Birmingham with his 2025 Heaven on Earth Tour, following an electrifying performance on his Dark Matter tour earlier this year at the same venue.
